Organisations that succeed with a certain demographic may find they are typecast, preventing them from funding new projects.
Science museums sounded the warning at the Museums Australia National Conference in Canberra, when representatives from the South Australian Museum, and from Scienceworks in Melbourne said they found they were precluded from support for adult-oriented projects because they were seen as family museums.
