From Sydney to Spain, Artistic Director of the Sydney Dance Company Rafael Bonachela has been awarded one of Spain’s highest honours, the Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, recognising his achievements in culture and extraordinary services in support of his home country.
Spanish Ambassador H. E. Enrique Viguera Rubio, acting on behalf of His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain, presented Bonachela with the Silver Cross at a ceremony at the Parliament of NSW on 26 February. The award was received just days before the premiere of Bonachela’s latest work Emergence, as part of the SDC’s De Novo, now on at Sydney Theatre.
