A former guide of the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) has announced this week that he will bequeath a gift of paintings valued at $8 million. Boxer, however, this is no ordinary guide. Born in Hong Kong, Alan Boxer was the son of a British-born missionary who moved to Melbourne after World War II. A respected Economic academic at Melbourne University, he joined Treasury in Canberra in 1975, where he retired. He died last year.
