Known for his provocative work, Thai photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom is back again with a new and even more controversial exhibition – Obscene. His latest work, currently on show at the H-Gallery in Bangkok, explores the vulgar nature of modern-day Thai politics through a series of photographs featuring Baroque nudes.
For those acquainted with Thai politics, the references in this photograph are not hard to miss. In Goddess of Democracy, a woman in a transparent red dress is photographed holding the Thai constitution in one hand and an automatic rifle in the other, a reference to the ruling Pheu Thai party and Thailand’s current prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
