Soul-searching expected at Theatre Forum

Cultural diversity and the marginalising of young people’s theatre are on the agenda for the Australian Theatre Forum this month.

An exchange of ideas, a deepening of relationships, and a conversation around practice itself,  ATF 2013 will be held at the Canberra Theatre Centre at the end of the month, together with the Australian Performing Arts Centres Association (APACA) conference Fear No Art, as part of the Centenary of Canberra celebrations.

The biennial event is a rare opportunity for theatre professionals from every corner of the country to meet, to pool ideas, to discuss the pressing issues facing the performing arts sector, and to imagine what theatre in Australia might look like in 20 year’s time. Previous forums have included conversations around gender equity, access, diversity and environmental sustainability, to name just some of the ten priority areas for action that were outcomes of the Brisbane 2011 gathering

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management.
