After a quarter of a century, The Melbourne Workers’ Theatre (MWT) family has announced that it is closing its doors.
Formed by Patricia Cornelius, Steve Payne and Michael White in 1987, the political theatre company opened in response to trade unions across the globe that wronged workers and their families. At the time, a plethora of political events that directly affected those associated with unions were hotly disputed, such as: the Robe River affair, the SEQEB job walk-offs the Mudginberri meatworkers dispute, and the Dollar Sweets Dispute.
