Is WAAPA financially unsustainable?

A special report into one of the country’s greatest performing arts school, the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, has revealed that it is in dire need of funding.

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) has been hailed as one of the top places in the world to study acting, music theatre, dance, directing and design, but a recent report commissioned by Edith Cowan University has deemed the school “financially unsustainable.”

According to the report, WAAPA has long been delaying the purchase of important items and has continuously implemented a range of “short term fixes” which have disguised an underlying deficit.
