A hip-hop act has beat out nine shortlisted artists to take out the annual Australia Music Prize, with duo Hermitude taking home the $30,000 prize.

Electro-wunderkind Flume, whose debut self-titled album has just gone Platinum, and Perth psychedelic outfit Tame Impala were considered the front runners, but according to the judges, Hermitude’s fourth album HyperParadise was the best album of the year that was.
