De Groot, from Darwin, won the $15,000 Art Award for Lucky – The Patron Saint for All Things Protected which is based on a connection she developed with a crocodile.

Inspired by her time as artist in residence at the Territory Wildlife Park 50 kilometres south of Darwin from July to December 2012, the work pays tribute to her love affair with ‘their ridiculously handsome resident four metre long crocodile, known affectionately as Graham’.
