Customise your CV to fit the job description

Don't use the same tired old resume for every job - give yourself the best chance of success by using customised resumes

Have you, for years, had that same old resume that you drag out every time you are looking for a job, and then send en masse to anyone who may be hiring? It’s time to rethink your job hunting methods, and start to customise your curriculum vitae to each individual job.

It is important to make the recruiter’s job as easy as possible, and you can do this by customising your resume and telling them exactly what they want to know: how you will fit with this particular job. Make sure you read the advertisement carefully, and respond to the requirements of the job. Focus on the job you are applying for, rather than the one you are leaving. Match the wording and key phrases of the job description and advertisements with the wording in your resume. This will tell the employer you are on the same page.
