Comedian mines dark fare for dramatic debut

The final hours of two fatally entwined lives are explored in comedian turned dramatist Sarah Young’s first play.

‘Playing with an event that’s actually true is definitely challenging,’ says Perth-based comedian Sarah Young, whose playwriting debut opens at the Blue Room Theatre this week.

Based on a factual account of two complete strangers who met online and helped one another kill themselves, Young explains that while Giving Up the Ghosts was inspired by true events, it was certainly not a forensic examination of the tragedy in question.
