Since Dr Sketchy’s started up in ‘a dive bar’ in New York’s Brooklyn in 2005, life-drawing art classes have never been the same. Dubbed as the ‘world’s premier alternative drawing movement’ or ‘anti-art school’, Dr Sketchy’s sees more than 3500 artists gather monthly around the world in one of its more than 100 branches to sketch glamorous underground performers.

Canberra’s branch of the anti-art movement will be hosting a unique workshop at the National Gallery of Australia as part of the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition. Participants planning to attend are required to bring their sense of form, line and inner voyeurs to draw life models inspired by Paris and the Moulin Rouge in the fun, convivial and burlesque-flavoured atmosphere that has made Dr Sketchy’s so popular worldwide.
