The auction of contemporary and post-war art at Christie’s in New York’s Rockefeller Centre has totalled $495 million, the highest sales figure at any art auction.

 

Record prices were set for 12 contemporary artists that included American abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock, pop artist Roy Lichtenstein and neo-expressionist artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
