Melbourne-based artist Tom Nicholson was announced as this year’s Paul Guest Drawing Prize recipient at a presentation hosted by the Bendigo Art Gallery earlier this week. The prize, which is named after former Family Court Judge and Olympic rower Paul Guest, awards the prize winner with $12,000 and has been developed in order to honor the art medium of drawing.
Nicholson’s winning drawing was one of 11 pieces in a series he completed last year. Titled “Drawings and Correspondence 4”, the charcoal and white pastel drawing depicts the conflicting relationship which existed between European settlers and Indigenous communities in the 19th century.
