How should I price my work?

Visual artists are often left stuck when it comes to pricing their own work. So, how do you give your work – often your life’s passion – an accurate monetary value?

A conundrum that artists can often face is how to place an accurate monetary value on their work. Some might find it difficult to assign a figure to what is an priceless reflection of their soul, while others might be quick to undervalue a piece that has taken a lot of time and effort because they feel they lack status in the art industry. So, how exactly should you price your work?

It’s almost faux pas to even bring up the subject of money when it comes to art, but no matter how much your work is a labour of love, you still have to eat. So lay your cards out on the table when it comes to pitching/selling work; be honest about your asking price but then be prepared to be flexible and to negotiate.
