After 23 years as a home for new Australian theatre, Adelaide’s Bakehouse Theatre will be forced to shut its doors in May 2022.
‘However, after many meetings and negotiations this has turned out not to be the case. The new landlords are looking to use the building themselves when our lease expires in May 2022,’ Munt added.
David Mealor, Artistic Director of independent theatre company Flying Penguin Productions, said Bakehouse had provided many ‘really important growth opportunities for young actors’ over the years. ‘I think that will be the real hit that South Australia will take with the venue disappearing,’ he said.
