Labor’s legacy

After twelve years in office, Labor’s legacy in cultural policy is decidedly mixed. South Australia boasts some iconic arts companies and events, and a vibrant local cultural scene in and around Adelaide. But in dollar terms, state government funding for the arts has actually gone backwards under Labor’s tenure. Nor are the state’s regulatory frameworks as conducive to cultural activity as front-runners like Victoria.
