Leaping the gap between graduation and landing professional work can be a one, and in West Australia what it usually means is getting on a plane and heading east. Black Swan State Theatre’s HotBed Ensemble was created in 2007 to provide opportunities for graduates to develop their skills and stay in Perth, and with the help of their partnership with RAC Group (WA) that pool of talent is growing out west.

The partnership between Black Swan State Theatre Company and the RAC Group (WA) was recently recognised with the AbaF National Australia Council Young and Emerging Artists Award. Shane Colquhoun, Black Swan’s General Manager says they were delighted at the national acknowledgement of the program. ‘I think for Western Australians in general, we’re out-of-sight out-of-mind for you guys over there. It’s nice that in these sorts of opportunities Western Australia is not only present but actually wins.’
