Director, Conservation & Infrastructure

Outstanding opportunity for a visionary leader in conservation, infrastructure and asset management in three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Tasmania

  • Conserving our heritage and convict history – and sharing this with visitors and with the world.
  • Leaders in conservation management and tourism with three sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
  • Outstanding opportunity for a visionary leader in conservation, infrastructure and asset management.

The Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority (PAHSMA) is the custodian of some of Australia’s most profound cultural landscapes, recognised for their global heritage value.  Established to preserve and protect the Port Arthur Historic Site, PAHSMA is also responsible for managing the Coal Mines Historic Site and Cascades Female Factory.  Together, they form part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Australian Convict Sites.

At its core, PAHSMA connects people with a complex history to inspire understanding, deepen engagement, and shaping appreciation of the past for future generations.  PAHSMA’s mission is to lead in conserving, creating and sharing these extraordinary places, while delivering cultural, social, environmental and economic benefits.

Operating as a statutory authority and Government Business Enterprise, PAHSMA balances world class conservation with sustainable tourism and visitor experience.  PAHSMA’s people are united by a shared purpose to protect places of global significance and bring their stories to life in ways that are authentic and impactful.

Our sites are of international significance, with Port Arthur being one of the most visited destinations in Lutruwita/Tasmania.  It is a key driver of economic activity in the region.

The Director, Conservation and Infrastructure is a pivotal member of the Executive Leadership Team, providing strategic leadership to support the long-term conservation and protection of PAHSMA’s World Heritage sites.

The role brings together heritage stewardship and contemporary delivery, overseeing conservation, infrastructure, and asset management to ensure the sites remain authentic, resilient, and fit for the future.

Operating with significant autonomy, the Director shapes strategy, leads their team in delivering major programs of work, and provides trusted advice across government and stakeholders.  It is a role of real influence, central to safeguarding internationally significant heritage while enabling its continued relevance for future generations.
