Background
Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre (“GAAC”) is a trading name used by Girringun Aboriginal Corporation (“GAC”) to promote the Arts aspect of the core business. Both Girringun and GAAC are based in the Nth Qld town of Cardwell, strategically located mid-way between the major centres of Townsville and Cairns. Girringun has become a very well-known and respected corporation through its three decades long record of community and government engagement. The GAAC building/Keeping Place which houses the art production space and training centre now includes Muulga.
Core to the aims;
Girringun and GAAC are committed to the preservation of culture and advancement of the 9 tribal groups that they support: Bandjin, Djiru, Girramay, Gugu Badhun, Gulngay, Jirrbal, Nywaigi, Warrgamay and Warungnu.
POSITION DESCRIPTION – Administration Assistant– Part time| 20 hours
per week
AWARD: Clerical – Private Sector Award 2025 from $25.74 per hour (superannuation + salary sacrifice available)

Position Summary
This position reports to Art Centre Manager and is based at the Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre & Keeping Place Gallery – 235 Victoria Street, Cardwell QLD 4849. This position is to provide administrative and clerical support to the Manager and to the day-to-day operations of the Gallery & Keeping Place. This position provides an opportunity to develop professional skills, learn Indigenous Culture and support the Girringun artists.
Please Note:
- The position is subject to a six month probationary period and an annual performance review.
- The position is reliant on the availability of ongoing funding and organisational financial capacity.
Duty Statement
This position will undertake tasks in the following key areas:
- Keep the Art Centre and Keeping Place clean, safe and well presented
- Support artists in a respectful and professional manner
- Assist with artwork sales, invoicing and artwork distribution
- Maintain artwork, gallery and inventory records
- Organise art materials, office supplies and stock
- Provide reception and customer service support to visitors
- Open and close the gallery, including signage setup and pack down
- Assist with setting up and dismantling exhibitions
- Follow cultural protocols in all areas of work
- Support marketing, promotion and social media activities
- Assist with maintaining the website and online content
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures
- Help create a positive experience for visitors and customers
- Provide administration support to the Manager
- Organise the gallery calendar and assist with event coordination
- Support transport arrangements of artists to attend workshops
- Respond to customer inquiries and general correspondence
