Using the Miles Franklin Award as a platform, the Greens are calling on the Gillard government to stop taxing arts prizes.
The Greens have partnered with the trustee of the famous literary prize to call for all iconic arts awards to remain tax free.
This isn’t a new request. The Trust Company, which administers the awards, made the same ask this time last year, seeking to place the Miles Franklin Award in line with the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, which are the only tax free awards in the country and have been since Kevin Rudd established them five years ago.
