The Western Australian State Government insists that a landmark Indigenous cultural centre will be a major drawcard at its controversial Elizabeth Quay development on Perth’s foreshore, despite shelving the construction of the centre for the foreseeable future.
Planning, Culture and Arts Minister John Day announced that although 1.5 hectares of the Perth waterfront project had been allocated for the tourist attraction that the cultural centre, which could cost about $500 million, was not included in the first stage of the development and any planning work for it stopped two years ago.
