The Rhino Room in Adelaide’s East End is the perfect venue for any one man comedy show and Lehmo’s Taxing Lyrical is no exception. At first the venue appears somewhat “grungy” but on entering you realise it is perfectly suited. The atmosphere is relaxed and sets the scene for the entertainment on its way.

Lehmo takes you on a journey of his previous life, of which I for one was unaware of, as an accountant. He masterfully describes how he was drawn into accountancy via “peer pressure” with countless witty stories along the way. The language can be course at times but not offensively so. He involves the audience brilliantly, but I think much of this has to do with the overall ambience of the venue. With soft couches that you sink into, ottomans and plenty of cushions, you feel as though you are having a night in with friends.

The stage is tiny but any bigger would seem pointless for a one man comedy act. This and the effective lighting contribute to the intimacy of the whole evening.

This is no ordinary show with loads of accountancy jokes, whilst the general topic is never far, the jokes and one liners come from just about anywhere. With stories of uni days, his first real job to a crazy weekend in Amsterdam, the perils of “picking up chicks” when you are an accountant and so much more. This show is sure to get you laughing from start to finish.

Lehmo was heckled at various points by one person, but ever the professional, he quickly put the young lady in her place by using the whole audience and never losing the theme of night – and certainly it will take more to put him off balance.

One word of advice though, if you are not one for being in the spotlight, do not sit in the front few rows.
