Tasmania’s most prestigious portraiture prize for emerging artists has had a refresh. Sponsors RACT Insurance felt that the new brand should highlight the purpose of the award for the Tasmanian Portraiture Prize, which is to inspire young local artists at the cusps of their careers. First prize money of $5,000 and a trip to two to Sydney for the Archibald Prize exhibition is one incentive, another is to belong to an impressive collection of portraits as the prize incrementally builds a solid body of work that reflects life in 21st century Tasmania now that it is in its sixth year of attracting emerging talents from all parts of the state.
