Hear ye, hear ye! It looks like the royal reign of Six the Musical is far from over. Off the back of two extensive Antipodean tours – the most recent of which just recently closed in May 2025 – the West End and Broadway hit will be making a royal return to the Australian stage with a national tour set to open in 2026.
The tour will begin at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre from July, with seasons confirmed at the Theatre Royal Sydney from October, and QPAC’s Playhouse Theatre in Brisbane from January 2027.
‘Since we first brought Six to Australian shores, this trailblazing pop-concert musical has broken records and played to packed houses, also earning widespread critical acclaim for its electrifying performances, witty storytelling, and empowering celebration of the six Tudor queens who rewrite their history on their own terms,’ says Louise Withers, on behalf of the producers.
‘Australian audiences have embraced the Queens with such passion and enthusiasm, and we can’t wait to share this next chapter of the show’s journey with them,’ adds Withers.
What is the story of Six the Musical?
With humble beginnings as a passion project penned by two friends who met at university in Cambridge (Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss), Six is a sassy modern reimagining of the tale of the six wives of King Henry VIII.
Stepping out from the shadow of their infamous husband, these jilted brides reclaim their narratives through the power of pop music. The group determines that whichever one of them had the worst time of being married to their shared ex-husband will earn the right to be crowned their band’s lead singer, and hence, they battle it out in a rapid-fire series of ballads and bangers.
More like a pop concert than a traditional stage musical, the show runs at an attention-span-friendly one hour and 40 minutes.
Not unlike the Hamilton phenomenon, what sets Six apart is its ability to breathe new life into historical storytelling and resonate with diverse audiences. From Edinburgh to the West End, Broadway and beyond (it has now played in over 15 countries).
The production attracts more than 3.5 million fans annually, and meanwhile, the soundtrack has amassed over 5.2 billion streams. Safe to say, the Queens’ reign is far from over.
Who is in the Australian cast of Six the Musical?
The new Australian cast and creative team is yet to be announced.
But previous tours have featured some of the nation’s most exciting up-and-coming musical theatre talent. We’ve seen Vidya Makan (who went on to earn praise for her performance as Eliza Hamilton in the Australian return of Hamilton) as Catherine Parr, Chloé Zuel (Australia’s previous Eliza Hamilton) as Catherine of Aragon, Courtney Monsma (who blew audiences away with her turn as Glinda in the 2024 tour of Wicked) as Katherine Howard, Kala Gare (My Brilliant Career) as Anne Boleyn, Loren Hunter (The Lovers) as Jane Seymour, and Kiana Daniele, who received the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Newcomer as Anna of Cleves.
Both Australian tours were also essential in forging the showmanship of Beetlejuice the Musical star Karis Oka, who swung in for every queen on the roster.
