Digitisation is promising to move the Circus Oz Living Archive from a receptacle for the past to a resource for new creativity.
Principal partners Circus Oz and RMIT have developed a model to drive innovations in the performing arts by mining the past.
The Living Archive is best explained by its title. The archive is a digital document of performances, rehearsals, interviews and television appearances by Circus Oz going back to 1978. As it stands now, the archive has 618 acts, 34 videos, 74 stories and eight collections from fans, researchers and performers. Once live online, the whole history of the company is open to be shared by the performers, their peers, audience members, others in the public, scholars and researchers.
