From one bed to another…

Artists have been accused of jumping into bed with dealers before, but here’s a twist on the value of "the sack".

At Christies most recent postwar and contemporary evening auction held at its rooms in London (1 July), Tracey Emin’s infamous soiled bed went under the hammer. My Bed sold for £2.5 million ($A4.5 million) with celebrity British dealer Jay Joplin, of White Cube fame, purchasing the work.

First exhibited at the 1999 Turner Prize, Charles Saatchi bought Emin’s bed in 2000 for £150,000 ($A272,877). It had remained in the collector’s London home since then.
