Don’t write off literature in Queensland

Not even a year has passed since the Newman Government axed the Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards, yet the newly appointed Arts Minister Ian Walker has just announced that the government will support literature in the state through three $15,000 grants for Queensland writers.

It may not be a pinch of the $244,000 that was invested in the original literary awards, but the Newman Government needs to build its ladder up and out of the hole it has dug in the arts community rung by rung.
