Bellingen Writers & Readers Festival expands its program

Three years in and the Bellingen Writers & Readers Festival gets bigger and bigger with more writers on an expanded program of talks, panels and workshops.

It says Bellingen but this festival for writers and readers gets out and about with parts of the program being held in neighbouring Dorrigo and Coffs Harbour and there’s even canoe trips down the Bellingen River from Lavender Bridge in two sessions called Rap in the Rapids and Paddle with a Poet.

If it’s possible to reduce a literary festival to two words, Bellingen’s must be extensive and exhausting. Come prepared to be exhausted by the end of the three days from March 22 to 24 because the packed program doesn’t let up. The topics extend from the oral traditions that go back to the beginnings of the word to adapting fiction to television, taking us to the contemporary world of The Slap.
