Why Australia needs a national Ministry for Culture

Australia needs to mature as a nation by taking its arts and culture seriously, writes Jo Caust.

The pandemic has been a wake-up call. Now, more than ever, the arts are a part of our daily lives. They are not something only โ€œthe eliteโ€ enjoy; they are an expression of the human condition.

To move away from reductive concepts we need to think about what we understand by โ€œthe artsโ€ and what they mean to us. What do we understand by โ€œcultureโ€ and how does it manifest in our lives?
