Reaching the forgotten audience

Arts organisations may be missing out on potential audience members by not catering for Australians with a disability.

Building audiences is a constant challenge for arts organisations but some are failing to target a significant sector: people with a disability.

Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show that in Australia, only 56% of those classified as disabled, ageing, or carers attended a cultural event or venue in the year to August, compared with 86 percent of the general population aged over 15.
