Is procrastination good for your work?

Is procrastination an essential part of the creative process? Or is this just wishful thinking?

Let’s be honest: I procrastinated while writing this article, and you’re probably procrastinating while reading it. In a 1984 study, about a quarter of subjects reported that procrastination was a problem for them; Psychology Today has an entire topic stream devoted to it, and I can’t spend ten minutes on Twitter without seeing a post about it or a link to an article about how to beat it. And amongst creatives, procrastination seems almost mandatory.
