About the roleAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a keen individual to meaningfully contribute to development of the arts in the broader Geelong region by joining the Board of the Geelong Gallery. The Board is interested in diverse experiences and prides itself on being an equal-opportunity Board.
To support strategic planning for the Geelong Gallery ahead of an ambitious program of major events and developments over forthcoming years under the guidance of new leadership, the Board seeks a range of relevant skills that would support board governance in the creative industry, including a particular focus at this time on financial acumen and / or involvement in the arts.
Capacity to commit time to the Board and to the Geelong Gallery will be crucial. The Board meets at least eight times per annum in Geelong (or online) with each of its sub-committees meeting at least four times per annum. Board Directors also attend exciting events involving the Geelong Gallery, including exhibition openings and key stakeholder events.
Directors of the Board must be or must become Members of the Geelong Gallery and can serve only three terms each of three years’ duration. Board Directors must meet all requirements under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and be eligible to be a Director.
Key Attributes The role of the Board includes setting and guiding the Geelong Gallery strategy and its executive, as well as oversight of governance, risk, Collections, gallery development, philanthropy and financial management.

- Willingness to support and advocate for the Geelong Gallery;
- Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion;
- Collaborative and respectful approach;
- Organisational strategy and leadership; and
- Broad understanding of, and interest in, the Arts sector and Geelong region.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Financial qualifications or skills
- Previous Board and corporate governance experience
- Interest or involvement in the arts
About Geelong GalleryGeelong Gallery Ltd is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, and its principal purpose is to operate the public art gallery in Geelong.
The Gallery was established in 1896 and is one of Australia’s leading public art museums, and holds a magnificent collection of Australian and European painting, printmaking, sculpture, decorative arts and design.
