Organisational Overview

The National Communication Museum (NCM) is a not-for-profit museum that opened in September 2024 exploring the past, present and future technologies that connect us. Positioned between culture and industry, NCM is building a new creative technology network in Australia.

NCM is the custodian of a significant heritage technology collection that spans over 150 years of Australian telecommunications history. A state-of-the-art warehouse facility in Dandenong South houses the central collection of material artefacts and technologies. This collection is the nucleus of the museum, enabling the consideration of how technologies, past and present, can empower us to shape our futures.

Located in one of Melbourne’s emerging creative and technology precincts, NCM has established a strong foundation of exhibitions, education programs, partnerships and community engagement. As the museum enters its next phase of growth, it is strengthening education by expanding our team to design and deliver more programs and resources, both onsite and in schools.

This is a rare opportunity for a self-motivated and strategic thinker to join a new museum in a start-up phase and help shape the future direction and long-term sustainability of Melbourne’s newest cultural landmark.

Overview of the Role

The Education Coordinator will assist with duties and responsibilities related to our schools, kids, and holiday programs across the museum. This role sits in a growing section of the museum; you will have the opportunity to build and grow programs that are tied to your expertise and learn new skills with training to run existing workshops. This position is ideal for someone with a background in education and STEAM skills; experience in coding, robotics, electronics, and engineering will be highly regarded. You will build on our team’s technical skills to support established creative technology offerings.

This position will work mostly onsite, though occasionally in schools, as we start to build incursion programs in the future. The Education Coordinator role will start at 3 days a week, however there is room to grow into full-time as our education bookings and offerings grow.

NCM is positioned as a technology start-up in a museum environment, therefore this role will suit someone with progressive ideas, who can think strategically, creatively, and can straddle both culture and tech industry contexts effectively.
