About the organisation
Whitehorse City Council is committed to supporting an inclusive, vibrant and sustainable arts and culture sector. Through Creative Whitehorse, Council works with artists, creatives, community groups and cultural organisations to strengthen participation, access and creative life across the municipality.
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee plays an important role in informing Council decision‑making by bringing together councillors and community members with diverse creative, cultural and lived experience.
About the role
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee provides advice, information and recommendations to Council on matters relating to arts and culture in Whitehorse.
Committee members contribute their knowledge of the local creative sector, community needs and emerging opportunities to support strategic planning, policy development and cultural initiatives. The committee operates in an advisory capacity only and does not have delegated decision‑making authority.
Members are expected to provide impartial, considered and constructive advice in the interests of the wider community. Discussions may include access and participation in arts and culture, sector trends, collaboration opportunities, and proposed acquisitions for the Whitehorse Art Collection.
Appointments are for a three‑year term. Meetings are held a minimum of twice per year and run for approximately 1.5 hours. Council officers provide administrative and technical support.
Selection criteria
Applicants must:
- Live, work, study or have a demonstrated connection to the City of Whitehorse
- Have experience, knowledge or active involvement in arts, culture, heritage or the creative industries
- Demonstrate an understanding of community needs and diverse perspectives
- Be able to contribute constructively in a group setting and work collaboratively
- Provide objective advice in the interests of the broader community, rather than individual or organisational interests
- Commit to attending meetings and participating over the full term of appointment
