Backlash as critics accused of sexism

Critics are not used to criticism. When reviewers' biases were put under the spotlight on ArtsHub, it revealed a deep rift in the arts community.

 The Latin phrase ‘de gustibus non est disputandum’, or ‘on matters of taste, there can be no disputes’, should be a reassuring maxim for theatre critics.

It gives them the licence to speak freely about a production, knowing even if their audience – or the artist – disagrees, their right to that opinion is sacrosanct.
