Who is Annette Messager?

And why is everyone talking about her? It is because the most extensive survey of this 70-year-old artist has opened in Australia.

Opening this week is another coup for the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) – the survey exhibition of the celebrated French artist Annette Messager.

While her work may be little known in Australia, Messager’s international acclaim saw her representing France at the 2005 Venice Biennale, the first woman to do so and also winning its prestigious Golden Lion award for Best National Participation. The piece will be recreated for this Sydney exhibition, among other key works stretching her 40-year career.
