A range of arts awards were presented to deserving recipients around the country this week, with comedians and visual artists dominating.

Painter, sculptor and draughtsman Peter Wegner was awarded the $20,000 Gallipoli Art Prize on Tuesday night for his piece titled Dog in a Gas Mask. The oil painting depicts a dog in a World War I gas mask and was designed to capture a sense of mateship in horrible circumstances.
