In the 11 months since the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) re-opened, it has attracted a record one million visitors. This figure almost doubles the MCA’s previous annual record of 578,913 visitors in 2010. The announcement of record visitor attendance, the highest in its twenty-one years of operation, complements news that the MCA attracted a further 750,000 views on its digital website.

MCA Chairman Simon Mordant AM applauded the museum’s success in achieving its goals of excellence and reaching the important milestone of a million visitors in a year. Mordant said that record attendance figures surpassed all expectations. He said the high attendance rates were due to the visionary management team, led by Elizabeth Ann Macgregor and that the ‘MCA has become a key part of the cultural fabric of Australia as demonstrated by this incredible audience engagement.’
