Helene Grove was today announced as the recipient of the 2013 Portia Geach award for best framed portrait.

The Queensland-based artist won $30,000 for her portrait entitled Self Portrait Getting On, from a group of 58 finalists.

Named after Australian artist Portia Geach, the award is designed specifically for women, and since it was first awarded in 1965, has each year been presented to an Australian female artist who has painted from life the best portrait of a significant person in art, letters or the sciences.
