Robert Jacks has been described by Tony Ellwood, Director of NGV, as ‘a pioneering figure of Australian abstractionism whose example has offered an alternative path to subsequent generations of Australian artists.’

This is the first large-scale retrospective of Jacks’ work to be presented and, through more than 200 artworks spanning his career, it will recognise the deep influence he has had – and continues to have – upon the field of Australian art.
