We’re used to watching the grandest of ambitious design on massive footprints on the TV version of Grand Designs. So it comes as a bit of a jolt that this year’s exhibition theme is looking to make a big impact on a much smaller scale. But small spaces are the fabric of urban life in both Melbourne and Sydney, which have seen apartment dwellings shrinking by the metre with each new development. Little wonder that Grand Designs Live, come October, will focus on tricking up scaled-down zones.
