The prolific American crime fiction writer passed away at 87 in his family home last Tuesday morning.


With 45 published novels – and he was working on his 46th – Elmore Leonard enjoyed a career of success and critical acclaim. Known for his snappy and deadpan dialogue, Elmore contributed greatly to strengthening the form of crime fiction. He recently received PEN USA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 and at USA’s 2012 National Book Awards and he was presented with a Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters – an award previously received by authors such as Joan Didion and Tom Wolfe.
