Designing women

A new exhibition at fortyfivedownstairs celebrates an eclectic mix of designers.

A Melbourne Now satellite event, Women in Design, presented by the Design Institute of Australia Victoria Tasmania Branch, examines the work of female creative leaders in architecture, furniture, design, graphic design, industrial design and more.

Fifteen designers have contributed work to the project that sheds light on their individual practices, helping to demonstrate the narrative of each person’s career path. The 14 contributing designers are: Celina Clarke, Debbie Ryan, Helen Kontouris, Helen Watts, Jenny Underwood, Kerstin Thompson, Kirsten Bauer, Leah Heiss, Leanne Zilka, Michaela Webb, Penelope Lee, Rae Ganim, Simone LeAmon, Sue Carr and Susan Hewitt.
