Are auction houses stepping on gallery turf?

As galleries continue to struggle with an ever-shifting landscape and market, auction houses seem to be getting the edge.

Globally we have witnessed the partnering of some of the big houses with online companies – Sotheby’s announced it was pairing up with eBay in July this year, following eBay signing up with Invaluable exclusive partnership; and Philips partnered with Tumblr to sell digital art at PaddleON.
