What it takes to successfully run a community arts space

Community arts spaces provide so much to so many, but what does it take to make them work?

In 2009 in Sydney’s inner west, a group of five local queer artists set up the Red Rattler, a not-for-profit legal warehouse-style venue, in order to showcase alternative arts, performance and grassroots activism.

Since then the space has thrived. This weekend the Red Rattler celebrates its ten-year anniversary with a program of events honouring its journey, including a music festival and the cabaret event, ­Cabarat.
