The Boys Club: gender imbalance in theatre

Gender parity remains sketchy territory for Australian theatre, even while the numbers of women in leadership roles has increased overall.

The Australia Council commissioned the study Women in Theatre: a research report and action plan in 2012. It showed that in most years, only 30 – 40% of productions by major performing arts companies had women in creative leadership roles, with the period of 2008-2010 dipping below 30%.
