Mod Dance: A different model for funding dance

DANCE: It was recently announced that Graeme Murphy is the new patron of new Sydney dance company Mod Dance Company which in March will launch its first national tour. Touring Murphy’s works in 'Suite Synergy', the Company will premier its world season at the Arts Centre, State Theatre from 23 to 26 March 2011, for a strictly limited season of 6 performances only.

When Murphy spoke to ArtsHub about his return to the Australian contemporary dance scene courtesy of Mod Dance Company, (which includes a number of dancers and artists previously involved in the Sydney Dance Company that Murphy had been artistic director of for 30 years) he says he is excited not only to be back, but to also be involved in a model that does not follow the traditional funding forms.
