Insider conversation with the MCA’s new Director

Australian Suzanne Cotter returns to Sydney after 32 years abroad heading up institutions in Luxembourg, Portugal, New York, Oxford, London, and Sharjah. But who is she?

Suzanne Cotter is not a name we immediate recognise in the Australian visual arts landscape, but she is internationally celebrated, and she is Australian.

Something like the APT is bringing the world in, but it’s also, I think, radiating out because of what it does.

She added that Australian curators and artists are incredibly well informed, that ‘they absolutely know what’s going on, and as an Australian, I think we’ve always looked to make up for the fact that we’re geographically distant.’
