Insider conversation with the MCA’s new Director

Australian Suzanne Cotter returns to Sydney after 32 years abroad heading up institutions in Luxembourg, Portugal, New York, Oxford, London, and Sharjah. But who is she?

Suzanne Cotter is not a name we immediate recognise in the Australian visual arts landscape, but she is internationally celebrated, and she is Australian.

As the new Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA), Cotter has returned to Australia after 32 years. During that period she has held senior posts as Director, Museum of Contemporary Art of the Serralves Foundation in Porto (Portugal); Curator for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation New York; Deputy Director and Curator at Large of Modern Art Oxford (UK); and curatorial positions with Hayward Gallery, Whitechapel Art Gallery, and the Serpentine Gallery in London.
